A Playground That Stays Inviting After Sunset

In many public spaces, evening hours are the real test of a playground. In this project, we made after dark use a natural part of the experience: a combined play structure with integrated LED lighting built directly into the equipment. The idea is simple: not to rely on street lighting alone, but to let the structure itself illuminate the space. The lighting highlights key elements, adds depth and presence, and creates an atmosphere that invites people to visit even after sunset. This is a proprietary, innovative development by Psagot Playgrounds.

About the Project and the Process

The Integrated Lighting System: Panels, Leaf Details, and Slide Sections Brought to Life As the playground shifts into evening hours, the atmosphere changes.

The space feels calmer, and every illuminated detail naturally draws attention and invites visitors in. Here, lighting was designed not simply to light the area, but to shape the full experience around the combined play structure - powered by Psagot Playgrounds’ proprietary lighting development.

Illuminated panels add colour and presence, decorative leaf elements create a sense of motion and softness, and the slide sections are traced with light that follows the path and highlights its form.

The result is an after dark playground that feels lively and welcoming, with lighting that marks the heart of the space without making it feel loud or overdone.

Because the LED lighting is integrated into the play equipment itself, the look is cohesive, natural, and refined.

Highlights/Uniqueness of the Project

Client Requirements: Evening Experience and Simple Municipal Control

In the public realm, lighting needs to deliver both atmosphere and practical operation. The focus here was on a pleasant evening experience, paired with straightforward municipal control. The authority can set lighting on and off times based on site needs and operating policies, keeping the solution easy to manage while maintaining a strong after sunset presence.

Planning Phase: LED Lighting Designed as Part of the Structure

To keep the lighting natural, it was planned together with the play structure, not added afterward. During planning, lighting points were selected, the elements to be highlighted were defined, and an evening look was shaped to sit comfortably within the space. This approach supports a consistent result that respects the playground’s design language and the surrounding public environment.

Design: Light That Highlights Lines and Signature Details

The lighting does more than illuminate. It brings out the structure’s lines, animates panels and decorative features, and adds a sense of depth that is felt the moment visitors enter the playground. The key is balance: integrated light that complements the design rather than taking it over, creating a welcoming after dark identity for the space.
