Central Adventure Play Structure in a Public Playground

This playground project by Psagot Playgrounds is centered around a large adventure play structure that serves as the main activity anchor of the space.

The structure combines climbing, internal nets, movement between levels, and barrel slides, creating a dynamic play experience for children of different ages.

Around the main structure, additional play elements were included for toddlers and younger children. The visual language connects to the nearby educational buildings through a coordinated use of color and form.

About the Project and the Process

At the heart of the project is a central adventure play structure designed to create a strong, multi-level play experience.

The structure gives children several ways to climb, move through netted areas, pass between platforms, and complete the route through barrel slides.

The goal was to create a prominent playground feature with real presence, while keeping the structure visually open rather than heavy or closed.A key element in the structure is the special surrounding net.

It gives the play tower an airy and transparent appearance, while allowing visual contact between the accompanying adult and the child during significant parts of the play experience. This supports adventurous climbing for children, while giving parents and caregivers a better sense of visibility and control.

Highlights/Uniqueness of the Project

The main highlight of the project is the central adventure structure. It is tall, active, and visually dominant, but the use of surrounding netting keeps the structure light and open. The play experience is based on climbing, movement, height, and choice, with several internal routes that allow children to move through the structure in different ways.

The design also creates a balance between a strong central feature and a broader playground experience. While the main structure is the focus, the surrounding play elements make the space suitable for younger children as well.

Client Requirements

The project focused on creating an important public playground with a clear emphasis on the central play structure. The main requirements were to include a meaningful adventure element, plan a multi-level play experience, maintain an open and airy appearance, and create a colorful visual language connected to the surrounding built environment and nearby educational buildings.

Design Phase

During the design phase, the playground layout was planned around the central structure. The height, movement directions, entry and exit points, and the connection between the climbing areas and the barrel slides all had to be carefully organized. The internal and surrounding nets were planned to support adventurous play while preserving openness and visual connection with the space.

The planning also considered the division of the playground between different age groups. Alongside the adventure structure, additional play elements were included for younger children, creating a playground with a strong central experience and a more varied, gradual use of the space.

Design Concept

The design is based on a tall and prominent central structure wrapped with netting and built from posts, levels, and slides. The combination of vertical form, nets, and transparent slide elements creates a lighter appearance for a large-scale play structure and allows the movement of children inside the structure to remain visible.

The visual language includes vivid colors and playful elements. The color palette is not only decorative - it connects the playground to the nearby educational buildings and to the surrounding urban environment. The result is a public playground with a clear adventure focus, a meaningful climbing experience, and an open appearance suited to an active public space.
