Public Playground for Children and Toddlers

This project involved the planning and construction of a public playground for children and toddlers, designed to support a wide range of play experiences within one cohesive space. The playground features a large central play structure with a striking roofline, multiple climbing and sliding opportunities, and a separate unit suited to younger children. Swings and additional movement-based elements were also integrated to create an active and welcoming play environment.

About the Project and the Process

Psagot Playgrounds developed this playground as a large-scale public play space for children and toddlers, with a clear focus on variety, flow, and age-appropriate use.

The goal was to create a playground that combines a visually dominant central structure with a broad mix of physical play activities, while also providing a distinct area for younger users.

The main structure was planned as the focal point of the playground, offering height, movement between connected sections, and a combination of climbing, sliding, crawling, and transitional play. Alongside it, a separate play unit was added for younger children, allowing the overall playground to serve families with children at different developmental stages.

Throughout the process, emphasis was placed on building a public playground that feels open, organized, and easy to use on a daily basis, while still delivering a rich and engaging play experience.

Highlights/Uniqueness of the Project

One of the defining features of this project is the strong visual identity of the main play structure. Its prominent roof form gives the playground a clear presence within the public space, while the variety of climbing and sliding elements encourages extended physical play.

Another distinctive aspect is the use of printed transparent panels featuring friendly animal illustrations. These panels add softness, character, and visual interest to the structure, helping create a playful environment that combines movement-based activity with an inviting graphic layer.

The division between the main structure and the separate unit for younger children also strengthens the usability of the playground by creating clearer age-related play opportunities within the same site.

Design Phase

During the design phase, the playground layout was organized around a large central play element and an additional unit scaled for younger children. The arrangement of the equipment was planned to support comfortable movement through the site and to preserve a clear and open spatial feel.

Attention was also given to balancing more active play functions, such as climbing, sliding, and transitional movement, with simpler play opportunities suited to younger users. This approach helped shape a public playground that can support simultaneous use by different age groups while remaining legible and user-friendly.

Design Concept

The design language combines a tall, eye-catching central structure with a warm and playful visual character. Natural-looking tones were paired with brighter colors, while the printed transparent animal panels introduced a softer and more imaginative layer to the overall composition.

Together, the towers, passages, climbing features, slides, and graphic details create a playground with a clear identity and a strong presence in the public realm. The result is a space that supports active play while also offering a friendly and visually engaging environment for children and toddlers.
