Planning and Building an Illuminated Adventure Playground

As part of a broad design-build tender for a series of innovative playgrounds in a new residential community, Psagot Playgrounds delivered a vibrant public play space with a strong nature-inspired concept.

The playground was designed around urban nature, birds, climbing, bridges and integrated lighting.

At the center of the space is a large multi-age play structure, supported by swings, an accessible basket swing, a spring rider and a standing balance element, creating an active, inclusive and welcoming play environment.

Planning and Building an Illuminated Adventure Playground

About the Project and the Process

The planning and building of this illuminated adventure playground was part of a wider approach to creating innovative play spaces for a new community.

The focus was on a large, flowing and multi-age experience that would feel exciting, imaginative and easy to explore.

The central structure was designed as an adventure forest, with tall towers, bridges, rope tunnels, climbing nets, slides and passages that invite children to climb, crawl, slide, discover and move between different areas.

The playground was planned to support many children and families at the same time, combining adventure play, accessible play and social play. The space includes a central multi-age structure, an accessible wheelchair-level platform, a swing set with seats for older children, toddler seats, an accessible swing and additional play elements.

One of the key features of the project is the integrated lighting. The lighting appears in the main structure and the swings.

It is operated through an app, allowing control of light colors and operating times. This is a proprietary lighting concept developed by Psagot Playgrounds, initiated and proposed by the brand as part of the overall play experience.

The lighting turns the playground into a magical evening destination and highlights the roofs, passages, slides and bird-inspired decorative elements.

Highlights/Uniqueness of the Project

The project combines height, movement, accessibility and light in one complete play environment. It is not built around a single activity, but around a variety of routes and

experiences that allow children to choose how they want to play.

The playground offers climbing, sliding, crawling, swinging, balancing and shared movement, while keeping a clear and welcoming structure for families and caregivers. The lighting adds another layer of experience, giving the playground a strong identity during the day and a memorable presence in the evening.

The project was required to serve a central public open space in a new residential community, with a large, innovative playground and a strong visual presence.

The brief focused on multi-age play equipment, full wheelchair accessibility, inclusion of children with special needs, durability for intensive public use, a design connected to urban nature and birds, and a play experience that feels unique and memorable.

During the design phase, the central play structure was defined as the anchor of the playground. It includes cable climbing nets, walking bridges, crawling bridges, passages between towers, a spiral slide, a toddler slide, a slide connected to an accessible play surface, play panels, an

accessibility ramp and play balconies.

This combination creates several play routes within one structure, allowing each child to choose the level of challenge that suits them. Alongside the main structure, the playground includes varied swings for toddlers and older children, an accessible basket swing, a spring rider and a standing balance element that adds movement and physical play.

The design is based on the language of a treehouse, an adventure forest and birds. The tall towers, pointed roofs, green and brown lines, nets and bridges create the feeling of moving between branches in a playful natural world. Decorative bird elements strengthen the

connection to nature, journey and freedom.

The green palette, light play surfacing, organic rubber shapes and tall structures give the playground a strong presence in the public space. During the day, it feels lively, fun and full of imagination. In the evening, the integrated lighting adds a second layer of atmosphere, creating an illuminated adventure playground for a new community, a municipality and a public space that aims to offer a truly impressive experience.
