The project began with a clear request: to create a playground that would feel personal, intentional, and deeply connected to the community, rather than a standard off-the-shelf play solution.
Congregation Kesser Israel is a long-established Orthodox community in Portland, and the design goal was to translate its values, stories, and identity into an active and welcoming play space.
The main play structure was designed with visual references to the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City, including arches, gates, windows, bridges, rope climbing elements, and slides. Around the structure, Psagot Playgrounds integrated illustrated panels featuring the Seven Days of Creation, the Seven Species, an ancient map of the Land of Israel, and animals from the Torah.
The result is a playground that combines movement, imagination, visual learning, and a strong sense of community belonging.
